Lachy and Lou Day, of Days Whiteface, Bordertown, South Australia will be hosting one of the first MLA “Bred Well, Fed Well” cattle workshops on the 22nd of January 2018. This will be one of three workshops being hosted in SA and one of the first few to be run in Australia.
“I’m really pleased to be able to host one of these industry workshops as a Hereford breeder, and it would be great to see other Hereford producers attending.” Said Mr Day.
The “Bred Well, Fed Well” workshops aim to highlight the benefits of using better genetics, as well as managing feed and nutrition for improved reproductive performance and herd productivity. Topics covered in the workshops include breeding better heifers and cows, improving heifer and cow nutrition, and how to use breeding values (EBVs) for better bull selection.
The three South Australian workshops will be delivered by renowned private consultant and lecturer at Latrobe University, Dr Jason Trompf, and local livestock consultant and PHD researcher, Penny Schulz.
The principles covered in the workshops can be effectively applied to any breed of cattle, and offer a great opportunity for producers to gain greater knowledge and understanding of the different aspects that contribute to a successful herd. The timing of the workshops also provides great preparation for the South Australian bull buying and selling season early next year.
The participation fee for each workshop is $75 per person and lunch is provided.
