CEO Update
Reflecting on the last twelve months, it has been a transformative year of many accomplishments with the business and breed both positioned well for continued growth and success. Key updates from our recent Board meeting include amendments to the schedule of fees and regulations. These and other developments and achievements set a strong foundation for 2025.
Garryowen building relationships along the supply chain to cultivate paddock to plate experience
The McInerney family’s business, Garryowen Direct Beef, is built upon principles of sustainability and regenerative agriculture, where the health of the land and the well-being of the cattle are paramount.
Update to the HAL Regulations
At the December board meeting some regulation changes were implemented. Key changes include updates to the import/export procedures, animal registrations, and transfer policies. Notably, dam verification will no longer be required for imported animals, semen, or embryos, and new policies have been introduced for animal reactivation and dispersal sales.
Update to the Schedule of Fees
Similarly with the Regulation changes we have also made some amendments to the Schedule of Fees noting changes to a modest CPI-based increase to fees, alongside the introduction of scaled inventory fees to better incentivise registering and maintaining registration of females. This is intended to increase the number of animals included in the BREEDPLAN evaluation, allowing members to make better breeding decisions. Ordinary membership fees have been adjusted to better accommodate associated costs, while export and import fees were reduced to encourage greater uptake.
Neogen Bovine Viral Diarrhoea
From 1 January 2025 Neogen will only be accepting TSU samples for BVD testing. Hair samples for BVD will no longer be accepted. In addition to this, due to rising operational costs, Neogen are no longer able to offer free confirmation testing for positive or weak positive results. Retesting of a new confirmatory sample will be charged at the same price as a standard BVD test from January 1 2025.
