Steers sold at last Thursday's Armidale cattle sale will ultimately help farmers affected by the St Ivan's fire in central NSW.
The 17-month-old Te-Angie blood steers, weighing 585kg, sold for 292c/kg or $1708, with one third of the proceeds donated to the Dunedoo Bush Fire Appeal.
Chris Johnston, Cameron and Davidson, Gunnedah, said the funds would help in the purchase of steers for a project at Alexander Downs Feedlot to assist the bushfire victims.
Richard Ogilvie, of Te-Angie stud, Armidale, said he was aware of the complete feeling of hopelessness that natural disasters can bring to a farming community.
The Ogilvie family hopes this small gesture will assist those affected by the fires to get their lives and enterprises back on track.
