Central to Herefords Australia’s ability to manage data on behalf of members is the software that allows us to record membership detail, animal registration and pedigree information, and performance records. This software also needs to enable access to sale catalogues and website search functionality.
For many years we have relied on the International Livestock Registry software from ABRI that Herefords Australia staff know as ILR2 and as members you may have accessed as Hereford Live. This software has served its purpose well for a long period of time. However, there are now alternatives that operate using much more modern infrastructure that have greater capabilities and are more flexible.
We are excited to announce that Herefords Australia will be changing to Helical for our registry software needs. Helical provides a complete registry system built for breed societies, combining pedigree, membership, accounting, invoicing, workflows, validation, and reporting.
Moving to Helical will deliver a one-stop shop that is intuitive and efficient to use for all staff, members and commercial producers who are looking to access information about Hereford cattle.
Importantly Helical can integrate with our existing Hereford BREEDPLAN evaluation, meaning that our genetic evaluation does not change and will remain stable.
We will start making the transition across to Helical in early July and will run it in parallel to our existing systems for several months to ensure that there are no interruptions to service delivery to members.
We will keep members informed as work progresses on this matter.
In other exciting news Hereford GenSELECT has now been officially launched and is available from Neogen. The first couple of commercial Hereford herds have received their results. Please see the article from Neogen in this issue of eNews.
While Herefords Australia is very conscious of the costs facing members businesses, we also need to manage the associations increasing cost of doing business. For this reason, we have made some modest changes to the fee schedule for 2026. We have kept membership fees the same to minimise the impact on members while all other fees have increased in line with inflation. The updated fee schedule will be posted to the website over the next week and will be implemented from the 1st of May.
Please keep in mind that the National Show and Sale, along with the Breed Forum and AGM are now less than 5 weeks away. It would be great to see as many of you in Wodonga as possible and it would be even better if you can bring others interested in the Hereford breed along as well.
If there is anything that you would like to discuss in more detail, please do not hesitate to get in contact.
Kind regards,
Hamish Chandler
