There was an extremely strong contingent of Hereford exhibitors at this year’s Royal Melbourne Show, with many high quality animals on display.
Brandon Sykes, of Mawarra B Hereford stud, Longford, had an exceptional show with his 14 month old bull; ‘Mawarra B Above and Beyond’. The young bull took out Junior Champion Hereford Bull and Grand Champion Hereford Bull, to then go on and be awarded Supreme Hereford Exhibit. This is an excellent result, especially given that this is the first animal that Brandon has bred and entered into the Royal Melbourne Show. Judge of the Supreme Hereford Exhibit Class; Diana Wood, Out West Angus stud, Coonamble, NSW said of ‘Mawarra B Above and Beyond’: “He was definitely the bull with the most sire appeal, and not just from a commercial perspective, I can definitely see him going on to making a potential stud sire too.”
The Supreme Hereford Exhibit class was a very tight competition, with Kanimbla Poll Herefords (Holbrook, NSW) ‘Kanimbla Chillie Woman’ coming in a close second. Chillie Woman was awarded Grand Champion Hereford Female, and Junior Champion Hereford Heifer. Kanimbla Poll Herefords also took out Senior Champion Hereford Cow with ‘Kanimbla Nicky’.
Tondara Hereford Stud of Urana, NSW also had a very successful Melbourne Royal, being awarded Reserve Senior Champion Hereford Bull with ‘Tondara Hopes Vendetta’, Reserve Junior Champion Hereford Bull with ‘Tondara Kings Ransom’, and Reserve Champion Senior Cow with ‘Tondara Miss’. This along with some impressive teams results, cumulated in Tondara Herefords being named Most Successful Hereford Exhibitor of this year’s Royal Melbourne Show.
Senior Champion Hereford Bull was won by Grangeview Park Poll Herefords’ ‘Grangeview Las Vegas’, and Reserve Junior Champion Heifer was won by Nikki Williamson of Kielder Park with ‘Kielder Park Mustang Sally’.
Congratulations to all of this year’s Royal Melbourne Show Hereford Exhibitors.
