Yearling Hereford steers have topped at 431c/kg at the Gippsland Regional Livestock Exchange store cattle sale.
Selling agents Greenwood Livestock yarded 1000 grown and weaner steers, heifers, and cows and calves for the August 19 fixture held at Sale, Victoria.
The sale was interfaced live with AuctionsPlus.
Topping the grown Hereford steers was vendor Glen Moon with a pen of 13 weighing an average of 381kg, aged 14 months and Mawarra blood, making $1500 or 393c/kg.
On a cents per kilogram basis, the top pen of Herefords was sold by St Katherine’s, Darriman, weighing an average of 322kg, Mawarra blood, and returning 431c/kg or $1390.
Phil O’Mara topped the overall heifer market with four Hereford weaners, 285kg, River Perry blood, returning $1070 or 375c/kg.
Peter and Deanne Sykes, Mawarra Herefords, Longford, opened the whiteface run with six 12-month-old steers, 391kg, selling for $1440 or 368c/kg.
Their seconds, weighing 291kg, sold for $1080 or 371c/kg.
The seconds in the heavy steers from Glenn Moon weighed 403kg and sold for $1400 or 347c/kg.
The run from St Katherine’s opened with a pen of 16 steers, weighing 341kg, and making $1390 or 407c/kg.
Their pen of Black Baldy steers, 366kg, sold for $1380 or 377c/kg, while their pen of lightweight purebred weaners, 272kg, sold for $1110 or 408c/kg.
S & D Walker also sold lightweight steer weaners, 261kg, for $1110 or 425c/kg.
