HEREFORDS Australia has a clear roadmap to reposition the breed in Australia following the launch of its new five-year strategic plan today.
Herefords Australia Strategic Plan 2022-2027 was developed by the Herefords Australia Board and executive, in consultation with its members and key stakeholders, to address the challenges and capture the many opportunities presented by a modern beef sector demanding more targeted and responsive breed leadership than ever before.
Herefords Australia Chief Executive Officer, Lisa Sharp, said the Strategic Plan launch was an important milestone for the organisation as it sought to reinvigorate engagement across the supply chain and clearly position the breed as a major profit driver of beef businesses.
“We know Australian Herefords perform because it is reflected in hard data and measurements, as well as anecdotal evidence, and that the breed excels across the major drivers of profitability for beef businesses,” Ms Sharp said.
“However, in a competitive environment in which, over time, market perceptions of our breed have shifted, it is imperative Herefords Australia is equipped to ensure we are best positioned to connect with beef producers and decisions makers across the supply chain.
“Using the new Strategic Plan as a clear roadmap for operations over the next five years, we will refocus efforts on marketing and promotion, registry and members services, business development and R&D activities.
“The Strategic Plan provides the right foundation to better support members, while equipping Herefords Australia to get on with the job of communicating the Herefords breed’s ability to meet and exceed the key markers of performance and profitability most valued by the nation’s beef sector.”
Ms Sharp said the new five-year plan was the result of careful review of the challenges and opportunities presented to breed societies by a beef sector with evolving markets, demands and responsibilities, and development of refreshed goals to ensure these opportunities are captured.
“In implementing the strategy, we will be working closely with our strongest advocates – our members – to demonstrate to the broader Australian beef industry, that there are no more reliable or profitable cattle than Herefords.”
