Herefords Australia has confirmed the 2026 Hereford National Show & Sale will remain at the Exhibition Centre, Wodonga, in May, along with the Herefords Australia Breed Forum on Tuesday 12 May, reaffirming its role as a cornerstone gathering for cattle producers nationwide, and sending a powerful message of strength, certainty and leadership at a time when other breeds are facing event disruption.
For more than six decades, the Hereford National has showcased outstanding genetics and delivered measurable results for producers. In 2026, the event will once again demonstrate why the modern Hereford is profitable, high-performing and built for the future of Australian beef.
Herefords Australia CEO Hamish Chandler said the confirmation underlined the organisation’s forward focus and confidence in its national event.
“The Hereford National is locked in at the Exhibition Centre, Wodonga, and our members and buyers can plan with absolute confidence,” Mr Chandler said.
“Herefords Australia has clarity, direction and a strong platform to deliver another high-quality National. Our focus is squarely on the profitability of our members, the performance of our cattle, and the future strength of the breed.”
The Herefords Australia Board and staff, together with the Wodonga National Show & Sale Committee, were acknowledged for their tireless work in securing the event.
“This outcome reflects the dedication and professionalism of our team and the committee on the ground. Their efforts ensure the National continues to thrive and deliver for our members,” Mr Chandler said.
He added: “The event is proceeding at Wodonga, and we are elated with this news. We are grateful for the fantastic support and opportunity to work together with Racing Wodonga and Wodonga City Council to ensure the future success of our flagship event at Wodonga for 2026 and well into the future.”
While other organisations may have faced changes in their event planning, Herefords Australia has received firm assurances regarding the Hereford National and looks forward to delivering another high-quality event in Wodonga next year.
Wodonga National Show & Sale Committee Chair Ben Davies said the event’s continuity reinforces both the reputation of the region and the momentum of the breed.
“The National is part of Wodonga’s DNA. For more than 60 years it has brought cattle, people and significant economic activity into the region. The event injects vital revenue into local businesses, drives community pride, and showcases the best of Australian beef,” Mr Davies said.
“That consistency and stability give buyers confidence, and by securing the National’s future in Wodonga we’ve ensured the event remains where it has always belonged, a place that continues to draw people from across the nation to celebrate and showcase the very best of our breed.”
Herefords Australia Chairman, Marc Greening, said the confirmation of Wodonga as the ongoing home of the Hereford National reflects both strong leadership and a commitment to members.
“It was disappointing that Angus Australia announced, on behalf of industry, that cattle events would no longer be held at the Exhibition Centre, Wodonga. However, with foresight and common sense, I would like to thank the staff of Herefords Australia and the Wodonga Committee for their efforts in ensuring this event continues its proud traditions at Wodonga. This outcome is a strong example of how Herefords Australia is working for our members and the wider Hereford community”
The 2026 Hereford National Show & Sale will feature the sale of outstanding bulls representing the modern Hereford breed, combining data, performance and real-world results.
