Hereford Bull Sales Fire up in USA (27/01/2012)
The move into Herefords in the USA has been highlighted by the opening bull sale in 2012 where the average jumped an astounding 30% on the previous year’s.
The 142 bulls at the Van Newkirk annual production sale on January 16 at Oshkosh, Nebraska, grossed almost $1 million and averaged $6932, up $1639 or 30% on the 2011 average of $5293 for 119 bulls.
The Van Newkirk family has been ranching since 1892 and founded their Hereford stud in 1944.
Exceptional demand created frantic bidding at the Mile High Hereford sale at the National Western Livestock show at Denver, Colorado, where almost 1000 Herefords were on display. The 16.4 lots (based on share sales) averaged $17,307 with five flushes averaging $9200 and four bulls averaging $41,213.
