Hereford Workshops at Wilcannia

Better seasons have regenerated interest in the beef cattle industry in the NSW Western Division and to assist producers to re-build herds, Herefords Australia is running a workshop on Charles and Fay Townsing’s 75,000 acre Cawkers Well Station at Wilcannia on June 27 and 28.

After a decade of drought running rivers and feed cover have given hope to Western Division producers and Herefords Australia, with assistance from MLA, has taken the initiative to bring to-gether a range of presenters, all with experience with western production systems.

“Interest is high and we expect a good crowd so early registration is essential to ensure a place,” said Herefords Australia’s Geoff Taylor.

“From bull and heifer selection right through to an explanation of MSA grading, feedlot access, health management, seasonal calving, environmental issues and many more relevant subjects will be discussed by some of the best people in their fields”, he said.

The workshop commences at 10 am on Monday June 27 and concludes at lunchtime the next day giving visitors ample time to get home.

Accommodation is available at Wilcannia (50 kms) and Broken Hill (160 kms) while there is also plenty of accommodation and facilities in the Cawkers Well shearing shed for those who bring their own sleeping bags or campervans.

All meals and refreshments will be provided as part of registration. MLA is providing MSA graded beef for a barbecue and Wilcannia Motel, Ironbark, Laucke-Merrina and Seven-Bar-Dot will sponsor a happy hour at the end of day one.

Pre-registration is essential to manage catering and those who register prior to June 23 will be in a draw to win $200 in fuel vouchers provided by local Caltex distributor Tasco Inland Oil Australia.
