Breedplan

BREEDPLAN is a genetic evaluation program that compares animals on what they will contribute to the performance of their progeny. BREEDPLAN is designed as a management tool to assist cattle breeders in improving the genetic merit and profitability of their herds.
The difference in performance between a bull and the breed benchmark for a range of traits is reported as an Estimated Breeding Value (EBV). EBVs can be positive (+) or negative (-), i.e. above or below the breed benchmark of zero.
EBVs are calculated from the available performance information on the animal, its parents, progeny and its close relatives within the breed. The information is adjusted for the animal's age, age of dam, & for differences between herds, years season of calving, management effects & for mating and selection biases. The heritability of the trait is also taken into account. The resulting EBV tells us about the genetic differences between bulls by removing the effect of known environmental effects.
