Glen Innes hits $22,000

The 72nd annual Glen Innes Hereford bull sale topped at $22,000 in the Glen Innes Salesyards on July 28.

78 from 106 horned and polled bulls sold to average $6134 and gross $491,000.

46 from 57 horned bulls topped at $22,000 and averaged $7033; 32 from 49 polled bulls topped at $9500 and averaged $5234.

All four Hereford heifers sold to average $2625 and both polled heifers averaged $2500.

The top bull price came early in the sale with Battalion Senator (H), offered by Grant and Kylie Kneipp, Battalion Herefords, Dundee.

The October 2015-drop son of Dundee Serang was purchased by traditional Hereford breeder, John Galwey, “Stuarts Creek” Roma, Qld.

The Junior Champion bull had figures of +105 kgs for 600-day weight, +4.9cm2 for EMA, and +0.4pc for IMF.

“He is the best Hereford bull he has seen in a long time with great weight for age, balance and a nice backline,” he said.

Mr Galwey made a second purchase on the day, Dundee Bagman (H), a South Boorook Bombay (H) son for $12,000.

South Boorook, a now dispersed stud, was a regular feature in Mr Galwey’s pedigrees and this bull’s sire line will help maintain the continuation of those bloodlines.

The top priced Poll Hereford was Supple Lawnmower sold by Ben and Leanne Rumble, Supple Whiteface, Guyra, to Lindendale Poll Herefords, Tamworth, for $9,500.

The top price female, Kylandee Marianne M003, sold by Phil Thomas, Kylandee Herefords, Inverell to Mossy Oak Herefords at Glen Innes for $3750.

Ben Swan, Byron Pastoral Co, Inverell, secured eight bulls from the draft to average $5000.“

Over 23 years, we have bought 135 bulls from this sale, it is a great opportunity for us to compare bulls at the one location close to us,” he said.214 registered bidders, 23 vendors with bulls sold across NSW, Queensland and Victoria.

The sale was settled by Elders Glen Innes with Andrew Meara and Brian Kennedy controlling the bids.

Andrew Marer, Elders flanked by Grant and Kylie Kniepp, Battalion Hereford, Dundee with their second consecutive sale topper.
